Genetics in your life: Albinism

Research an organization that creates awareness/raises money for this disorder. What is the organization called? How long has this organization been around for? Explain the events that have occurred in the past to promote awareness/raise money. If they haven’t done any, what events could you suggest they try?

 

Founded in 1982, the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation also known as “NOAH” is an organization that spreads awareness and raises money as well as provides accurate information about albinism (Learn About NOAH, 2015) These are there goals: “NOAH envisions a world where people with albinism are empowered to be fully functioning members of society, where barriers and the stigma of difference no longer exist, and where people with albinism have a quality of life that is rewarding, dignified and fulfilling.”(Information Bulletin, 2015). They sponsor national and regional summer camps, where kids can intermingle  socialize and play with other kids who have albinism. They also have conferences and adult meetings where people from across the country come and share they’re experiences, as well as have local chapters that involve people with and without albinism.
